Position Summary

This role will be responsible for conducting construction field surveys and providing essential data for the planning and execution of construction work. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, on-site problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.

This position is based in Prince Rupert, BC and may require travelling and working on a rotational basis.


  • Provide work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and construction
  • Assist in the evaluation of potential dimensions and other field problems
  • Provides topographic and cross-section surveys as required for planning and payment quantities
  • Assists with conducting quantity calculations as required
  • Setup and operate total station and GPS instruments for layout and as-built capture of road, pipes, excavation, utilities, conduits
  • Collect, organize and record geographic information
  • Help prepare drawings, charts, maps, plans, records, and documents
  • Organize records, measurements, and other survey information
  • Competently calculate layout from digital design files
  • Perform quantity survey as required
  • Generate and maintain as-constructed drawings by tracking and capturing as-built data (inverts, lengths, coordinates, work type)
  • Maintain site benchmarks as required
  • Perform layout work competently, accurately and efficiently and ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instruction
  • Provide technical engineering information and interpretation of plans, detail sheets and specifications
  • Report accurate quantities for labour cost reports and accurately monitor material ledgers to ensure quantities in estimates are sufficient to complete the project
  • Use historical survey information to assist estimators in creating hard bid estimates


  • Post-secondary technical education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience or
  • Competent in reading and interrupting design engineering drawings
  • The ability to interpret and use information from maps, graphic drawings and measurements taken in the field
  • Experience with GPS systems and total stations
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Computer skills and the ability to use MS Office suite etc.
  • Superior time-management skills to meet deadlines handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • You have a strong working knowledge of surveying techniques, surveying equipment standards and procedures, and ability to work autonomously on the job
