What is Gear Up?
A 12-week virtual personal growth, training, and career program. Participants will spend 6 weeks in group training and 6 weeks in an individualized career training stream before starting a job search.
Mix of online group meetups, virtual training, independent work, and community-based activities.
Gear Up includes:
- Personal and Life Skills: Well-being, self-care, family, relationships and more.
- Assessments: Personal strengths, career preferences, personality style, and more.
- Essential Skills: Math, forms, terminology, and vocabulary.
- Short Term Skills Training: First Aid, SuperHost, Computer Basics, Pandemic Awareness and More
- Special Guests, creative activities, book club, employer networking, community connections, and work experience opportunities
- Individualized Certificate and Online Industry Skills Training
- Participants will be matched with a personal career coach and move into employment or advanced training upon completion of this program
- Supports include: Laptop provided for learning, One year subscription to Office 365, up to $1000 success incentive paid upon completion of training requirements, $400 in grocery gift cards to purchase lunches during training, and allowance for work clothes. Childcare, transportation, and wage subsidies are available.
Who should join?
- Women or Men over 18 years of age who are unemployed, under-employed or precariously employed and have experienced trauma or violence in their lifetime
- Women or Men who are ready for employment or to move into advanced education and would benefit from a longer-term supportive training environment
- Must have a safe place to participate in daily training and basic computer skills. Access to internet is required.
