OUR GOALS

Empowering People

Our core mission revolves around service our community and forging meaning connections that help individuals realize their employment, training, and settlement goals. Through a range of specialized program and services, we are committed to supporting job-seekers, nurturing new entrepreneurs and fostering the growth of our community. We deliver on these goals by providing workforce development programs, training and assessments and settlement services. Our services support job-seekers, new entrepreneurs and employers on Haida Gwaii and around Prince Rupert.




We are humbled and grateful to acknowledge that the lands our offices are located are on the Coast Tsimshian Territory, and we also serve the communities of the Haida Nation, and the Heiltsuk Nation.

In May 1995, Hecate Strait Employment Development Society achieved a significant milestone by attaining its non-profit status and incorporation. From its humble beginnings under the capable leadership of C. Leslie Hermanson, the society has undergone tremendous growth and transformation. Today, we proudly boast a dedicated team of over 20 staff members, spread across four centres in Prince Rupert, Masset and Daajing Giids.
