Description:

The Council of the Haida Nation is seeking a Head Electoral Officer to conduct the 2024 CHN elections. Under guidance from the Policy Department Manager, this position is responsible for conducting elections and by-elections in accordance with the CHN Election Act (2017).

Role of Head Electoral Officer:  

• Carry out elections on behalf of the Council of the Haida Nation in accordance with the Election Act and the Constitution of the Haida Nation;
• Abide by the rules and fulfill their obligations under the Election Act with impartiality.
• is accountable to Haida citizens under the oversight of the Hereditary Chiefs Council, but must perform their duties impartially and independently without interference from any person, organization or entity.

 Qualifications:

• Previous experience conducting a CHN election
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Demonstration of ability to appoint and lead a team of up to 12 or more Election Staff in 4 electoral regions
• Ability to travel between regions of Gaw Tlagée, HlGaagilda, Kxeen and T’agwan.

Note: An individual who is appointed as a Chief Electoral Officer:

(a) Forfeits any right to vote in elections which they oversee;

(b) May not be nominated as a candidate in an election; and

(c) Must resign a minimum of 20 weeks prior to Election Day in order to be eligible for nomination as a candidate in an election.
