We are hiring two Operations Supervisors to join our teams at our Ridley Island and Prince Rupert Boulevard facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE  

As an Operation Supervisor, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and ensuring the safe, efficient execution of the day-to-day operations of our facilities This includes optimal scheduling of labour to meet the daily production plan, working with the team to execute daily KPI measurements and overseeing a union workforce. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Warehouse Operations 

  • Determine staffing levels, schedule labour, and assign workloads. 
  • Coordinate with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure container availability and plan labour needs.
  • Oversee daily workflow, employee coordination,and labour management with support from management. 
  • Supervise the union workforce, ensuring adherence to SOPs.
  • Plan and optimize warehouse utilization. 
  • Monitor inbound inspections and optimize warehouse capacity.
  • Develop and implement contingency plans for supply chain disruptions.
  • Measure and report daily activities and employee performance to management.
  • Provide leadership, corrective feedback, and support for conflict resolution and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead weekly safety toolbox meetings and daily startup meetings, documenting as required.
  • Ensure shipment documentation accuracy and submit to the Warehouse Administrator.
  • Maintain all electronic and physical documentation as needed.
  • Resolve invoicing discrepancies or reservation fees with the operations team.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including facility-specific ones with the Operations Manager.
  • Maintain a safe environment for staff, customers, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Enforce company safety policies and address concerns.
  • Promptly report and escalate incidents promptly as necessary.
  • Correct unsafe acts and implement risk mitigation measures.
  • Attend monthly JOHSC meetings, gradually taking the lead and managing documentation.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Analyze work procedures and recommend process improvements to management.

CEF Specific Warehouse Operations 

  • Meet with the CBSA superintendent daily to review upcoming plans and address current or potential issues. 
  • Coordinate with the operations team to ensure sufficient containers are available for inspection.

 

WHAT YOU BRING 

Knowledge 

  • Minimum 2 years of direct industrial supervisor experience, ideally in a unionized environment. 
  • Strong knowledge of containerized exports, container terminals and logistics is required.
  • Experience in the waterfront industry (terminals, stevedoring, warehousing, transportation) is an asset. 
  • Familiarity with various warehouse management software is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Skills 

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in technical skills (Office 365, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for data input and retrieval.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, capable of reading, estimating, calculating, interpreting, and documenting information effectively.

Abilities 

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to input, retrieve, and analyze data effectively.
  • Proven ability to solve problems, resolve issues, and evaluate operational performance.
  • Experience in translating strategy into operation execution with the assistance of management.
  • Skilled at establishing courses of action for both self and others.
  • Demonstrated leadership in supervising, mentoring, and coaching staff.
  • Proven ability to make informed decisions and drive change.
  • Capable of climbing machinery and lifting up to 50 pounds.

 

COMMUNICATION 

  • This position is responsible for daily communication with terminal staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • As a customer-facing role, it requires professionalism to meet customer needs and maintain high levels of satisfaction.
  • External communication with suppliers, vendors, regulators, and safety associations will also be required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

  • A regular presence in the warehouse, with standing and/or sitting for 8 hours per day.
  • Exposure to the outdoors, including heat, cold weather, rain, and noise.
  • Frequent interaction with heavy equipment in the terminal.
  • High mental demand and strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy throughout the day.
  • Minimal travel between terminals and occasional off-site meetings may be required, with some flexibility needed.
