Location: Haida Gwaii, BC
Job Type: Part-Time 20hrs/weekly
Salary: $35/hr
K’aayxada Adventure Camp (K'AC) is a Haida Gwaii-based non-profit offering outdoor education and leadership programs for youth. We work closely with local schools, elders, and community groups to promote well-being, cultural knowledge, and connection to the land.
The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership for K'AC, overseeing programs, finances, facilities, staff, and community partnerships. The ideal candidate brings strong communication, non-profit management experience, and a passion for youth development and cultural education.
1. Administration & Governance
· Oversee budget ($100K–$200K), grant writing/reporting (e.g., Gwaii Trust, BC Gaming)
· Manage payroll and finances with Haida Gwaii Accounting; use Ceridian
· Ensure compliance with BC Societies Act, WCB, insurance
· Coordinate board meetings and maintain governance documents
· Represent K’AC at community meetings (e.g., Mental Health, Safety)
2. Program Management
· Hire/train staff, coordinate school programming, manage logistics and incidents
· Monitor program budgets and supplies; liaise with Gwaii Haanas
· Maintain communication with Lead Staff for smooth operations
3. Facility Management
· Organize volunteer work parties; manage seasonal opening/closing
· Oversee maintenance of water, solar, propane, and buildings
4. Training & Certification Courses
· Organize First Aid and WAFA/WFR courses, including logistics and payments
5. Facility Rentals
· Manage rental bookings, facility access, and user communications
6. Fundraising
· Lead annual concession event; pursue new fundraising opportunities
7. Communications & Outreach
· Manage website, social media, and branded merchandise
· Represent K’AC at youth and community events
· Infrastructure: Oversee projects; manage contractors
· Curriculum: Collaborate on cultural curriculum and Haida language integration
· Appreciation: Plan staff/volunteer recognition events
· Experience in non-profit leadership, program delivery, or related roles
· Strong grant writing, budgeting, and financial management skills
· Skilled in community engagement and communications
· Knowledge of Haida Gwaii and Indigenous governance is an asset
· Basic familiarity with off-grid systems (solar, water, propane)
· Proficient in social media and standard IT tools
