Job Description
The Program Director oversees the coordination and administration of Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) client service programs, including planning, organizing, partnerships, staffing, leading, and controlling program activities in the HSEDS service delivery region. The current program areas include workforce development and settlement service programs funded through various contract agreements. Programs are contract based and the programs change over time as contracts change. This is a senior management position which reports to, and closely collaborates with, the CAO. This position is full-time and permeant.
Responsibilities
•Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the vision and mission of HSEDS.
•Develop and implement workplans to achieve the successful outcome of the programs.
•Develop and oversee annual budgets and forecasts (in coordination with Finance); and operating plan to support programming.
•Ongoing assessment of the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement.
•Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the society, and the contractual requirements.
•Ensure program marketing is planned and implemented.
•Develop forms and records to document and support processes for program activities as needed.
•In consultation with the CAO, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff.
•Ensure program staff members receive orientation and appropriate training.
•Overall supervision of program supervisors and/or coordinators, and program staff by providing direction, input and feedback.
•Work with coordinators and supervisors to develop and implement their work plans.
•Communication with funder representatives on client service related issues and updates
•Communicate with members and other stakeholders to gain community support for the program, create program partnerships, and to solicit input to improve the program
•Cultivate relationships with community service providers, businesses, institutions, associations and other stakeholders with the goal of program partnerships, service marketing, and working to improve coordination between agencies to serve common clients.
•Report out on program for management and funders.
•Participate on cross department team initiatives and projects, and other items that arise.
Desired Qualifications
•At least 5 years’ experience managing staff, and a related certificate, designation, or degree (i.e.: Business Administration, Social Services, Community Development, Career Development, etc.) is preferable, however a combination of experience and other education will be considered.
•Technologically comfortable, able to learn technologies, incorporate technology into programs and navigate client database systems.
•Ability to maintain, and ensure team members maintain, confidentiality and service ethics
•Experience delivering programs and services for and with Indigenous people and remote communities.
•Able to work with people from all backgrounds, and understand the needs.
•A relationship builder with strong interpersonal, coaching, negotiation, and presentation skills.
•Experience managing, planning, reporting, and managing resources, including human resources.
•A desire to learn and adapt in a changing environment.
•Strong report writing skills.
•Practical people management skills.
•Strategic mindset.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
