JOB POSTING – PROGRAM COORDINATOR for the
X̱AAYDA KIL MENTOR APPRENTICE PROGRAM
(Haida language programming, Skidegate dialect)
The Haida Gwaii Museum is looking for a full-time employee in HlGaagilda to work
minimum 30hrs – maximum 40 hrs per week at $34-$40/hr (depending on experience)
as the Program Coordinator for the X̱aayda Kil Mentor Apprentice Program (X̱KMAP),
focussed on X̱aayda kil in HlGaagilda.
Term: 1 year (with possibility of extension)
Start date: July or September 1, 2026
Position duties
The Program Coordinator:
• reports to the X̱KMAP Program Lead.
• plays an important role to bring the Xaayda Kil community together by managing
logistics
• spends some work time learning X̱aayda kil (orthography, reading, writing and
eventually, pronunciation), under direction of the Program Lead.
• coordinates meetings (X̱KMAP Committee monthly meetings, others as needed).
• supports language planning and the creation of a Community Language
Revitalization Plan.
• organizes and coordinates language learning events in the community (in person
and online courses, in person workshops).
• organizes and coordinates guest speakers (organizes logistics: advertises,
coordinates travel and accommodation for guests, organizes catering).
• Supports the strengthening of the X̱aayda kil community by:
o creating newsletters and other outreach materials
o building and maintaining relationships with other language entities (SHIP,
X̱aayda Kil Language Nest, X̱aad Kil Née) as well as CHN, SBC, SD50, etc.
o bringing together Xaayda Kil language teachers to encourage sharing and
learning together
• is provided a work computer, can work from home or in shared workspace at
HGM
Skills needed
The Program Coordinator:
• has some experience with the Haida language, wants to learn X̱aayda Kil and help
others learn and speak it too! • is highly respectful, has a keen learner mentality and enjoys collaborating with
others.
• is highly organized, and able to handle responsibility.
• enjoys working with others and likes working in person with others to coordinate
great events (language workshops, community events).
• lives in HlGaagilda (Skidegate) or Daajing Giids.
• can manage budgets, draw up and keep track of invoices for payment, coordinate
with a bookkeeper and fundraiser.
• has office skills: spreadsheet organizing, invoicing, budgeting.
• has experience managing projects.
• has excellent communication skills for face-to-face meetings, social media, email
and phone, and keeping everyone included and updated.
