Job Title: Lead Camp Cook

Pay Range:

$300/day

$150/half day

Mileage will be reimbursed.


Job Description:

K’aayxada Adventure Camp is looking for motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic people to be a part of our team for the upcoming camps. We are holding one, all-island Grade 11 camp this fall:


TBD In-town/virtual staff training (attendance required for all staff) Sept 26th-27th Camp open/ in person staff training (attendance required for all staff)

Sept 28th-Oct 2nd Grade 11 Mosquito Mountain Hike camp (attendance required for all staff)

Oct 3rd Camp close (attendance required for all staff)

Employees will have a unique opportunity to cook for a wonderful Staff and great Youth at the remote and beautiful facility located at Mosquito Lake G̱awu Ḵuns Siiwaay.


We are looking to fill a Lead Cook Position and the tasks required are as follows:

● Cook for Staff during camp opening and close

● Mentor the Assistant Cook and work with them in a professional, courteous manner

● Work within the budget for the season to buy food on a weekly basis (local and in bulk)

● Check with ED for participant numbers and lists of allergies and dietary needs for each week

● Plan a menu for each week including 3 meals and 2 snacks per day

● Transport food and any supplies you need to camp

● Prep for the week

● Prepare dinner for staff on Saturday and lunch and dinner for staff on Sunday

● For out-trips, prepare food in advance that can be transported and warmed on fire, plan all snacks and meals before leaving.

● Report to Executive Director and liaise with Lead Counsellors as needed

● Report any injuries, behavioural concerns, or disclosures to the Lead Instructor(s)

Job Requirements:

1. Valid Foodsafe Certificate

2. Knowledge of Xaad kil and/or Xaayda kil an asset

3. Valid WFR and WAFA certificates an asset

4. Knowledge of Haida Cultural Values an asset

5. Experience working with Youth an asset

6. Experience cooking in a remote location an asset

7. A Police Information Check will be required for successful candidates

Although candidates who are available to work all camps in the season will be preferred, it is not a solely limiting factor upon hiring.
