Gwaii Haanas, which translates to “Islands of Beauty” in Haida, is a protected area in southern Haida Gwaii. Gwaii Haanas is a Haida Heritage Site, a National Park Reserve, a National Marine Conservation Area Reserve protected from the ocean floor to the mountain top. Gwaii Haanas is cooperatively managed by the Council of the Haida Nation and Government of Canada. The Gwaii Haanas team is comprised of year-round and seasonal employees. Roles include: field research positions, administration and finance, visitor experience, asset management, cultural resource management and much more. In the spirit and intent of the Gwaii Haanas agreement, hiring citizens of the Haida Nation is a priority.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Resource Management Technician II – EG-02

 

TENURE: Full-Time Term, Approximately 4 months.

SALARY RANGE: $59,291 to $74,534 plus Isolated Post Allowance

LOCATION: Skidegate

Are you interested in a career with Gwaii Haanas? Are you currently enrolled or interested in obtaining a university degree in environmental or natural sciences program? We are currently accepting applications for the Resource Conservation Work Experience Program. This position is intended to give an individual of Haida ancestry the training and experience required to be eligible to apply for a position in the resource conservation area.

 

Work Duties

·      Support the ecological and cultural research programs in Gwaii Haanas

·      Be an active member of the visitor safety team, assisting in emergency situations

·      Use and maintain a variety of scientific tools

·      Work as part of a diverse team in a remote outdoor setting;

 

Benefits

As a federal government employee, you will receive a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan and health, dental and group insurance.

Due to its remote location Gwaii Haanas is categorized as an Isolated Post providing certain additional benefits:

 

·      Isolated Post Allowances range from approximately $10,314 to $17,189 per year based on if the employee has dependants or not.

·      Vacation Travel Assistance is provided once a year of approximately $19,37.72 for each eligible member of the household.

·      Travel associated with non-elective medical and dental treatment, bereavement, or compassionate leave may be eligible for reimbursement.
