DESCRIPTION

The Negotiations Manager will support Gud ad T’alang HlGang.gulxa Tll Yahda / Tll yá’adee G̱ii gud ahl t’álang hlG̱ángulaang negotiations including implementation of the GayGahlda/Kwah.hlahl.dáyaa (Changing Tide) Framework for Reconciliation. The Negotiations Team provides strategic and technical support to the CHN through the President, Vice-President and Haida Reconciliation of Title Team, and works closely with the CHN Legal Team on matters relating to negotiation and litigation. 

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mentee and work closely with the Negotiations Director to advance reconciliation negotiations, including providing senior technical support for matters related to:
    • Implementation of the GayGahlda/Kwah.hlahl.dáyaa Framework for Reconciliation, including Good Faith Measures
    • Implementation of the Nang K’uula/Nang K’úulaas Recognition Agreement
    • Development of a draft Haida Title Lands agreement
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the NST to implement internal and tripartite work activities
  • Uphold Haida values and interests in negotiations-related meetings with federal and provincial representatives
  • Provide office-based support for internal coordination across CHN directorates, including working collaboratively with CHN Governance and Stewardship staff and contractors on negotiations matters related to forest management, oceans management, and protected areas management
  • Assist with communication and engagement of Haida citizens in the negotiation process
  • Assist with preparation of materials to support negotiations
  • Coordinate with legal and title case work
  • Other related duties

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Sound knowledge of the Constitution of the Haida Nation, the CHN, its mandate, vision, goals, objectives and programs including policy and procedures, Haida language and culture
  • Sound knowledge of Haida Nation social and governance structures and processes
  • A good working knowledge of existing CHN agreements and protocols, the Haida Title Case, and federal and provincial reconciliation processes
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience interfacing between the Haida Nation, Canada and/or BC
  • Effective oral and written communications skills
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft office programs
  • Availability to work in the CHN Skidegate or CHN Massett offices
  • Must have valid Class 5 BC Drivers License
