Janitor

Contractor POSITION

 

Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) is a non-profit organization that provides resources for jobseekers, newcomers, employers, and new entrepreneurs. Our mission is to serve and build connections for people to reach their employment, training, and settlement goals.

 

As a Janitor you are responsible for independently maintaining a clean and presentable building in Masset. This includes performing a small range of building and maintenance duties as assigned while exercising judgement and initiative.


Key Responsibilities:

·       Sweep, vacuum and mop the floor,

·       Sanitize restroom,

·       Empty trash, recycling and compost,

·       Clear snow in the winter if necessary while on duty,

·       Wash windows, inside and out,

·       Clean mirrors,

·       Waters plants,

·       Completes minor repairs such as switching light bulbs and unclogging toilets,

·       Make sure the building is clean and meets all safety requirements,

·       Wash walls, ceilings and light fixtures regularly,

·       Keeps supplies organized,

·       Locks and unlocks doors and gates as appropriate; turns lights on and off; sets alarms, maintains security.

·       Identifies and reports maintenance and repair needs and problems; reports vandalism and safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate staff; responds to emergency custodial requests.

·       Monitors and assists in maintaining inventory levels of building maintenance custodial supplies.

·       Other related duties as assigned.

 

Desired Qualifications:

·       Ability to operate cleaning equipment or snow removal equipment,

·       Ability to work independently,

·       Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair;

·       Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

·       Ability to perform duties in a confidential manner independently;

·       Access to a reliable vehicle and have a valid driver’s license;

·       Satisfactory criminal record check.

 


Wages:

$400/month paid as an independent contractor.
