Niislaa Naay Healing House Society is well funded and in the early stage of operating as an independent Society. Niislaa Naay services the community of Old Massett, as well the neighbouring communities. Niislaa Naay hosts many interactive community programs such as traditional wellness, mental health, community health, midwifery, maternal health, home care, youth services, dentistry, patient travel, and primary care services. Services are provided from three locations: the youth centre, wellness house, and the Niislaa Nay Healing House. Many programs that are offered have a land-based healing approach incorporating the culture and traditions of the Haida people.

Job Description

Niislaa Naay Healing House Society Job Posting Homecare Nurse – Permanent Full Time

Purpose of Position:

Working within the context of the client-centered, family focused vision and goals of the Home and Community Care Program, the FNIHB Home and Community Care Program and in accordance with CRNBC Standards of Practice, the Home Care Nurse combines health sciences knowledge with assessment, supervisory and clinical nursing skills to effectively assess and coordinate client care for the Home and Continuing Care Program. The Home Care Nurse provides supervision of the Home Support Workers.

Education and Training

· Member in good standing of the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC)

· Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited University

· Experience in a public health or community-based setting

· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check according to the Criminal Record Review Act, Ministry of Public Safety and the Solicitor General

· Advanced Foot Care Certification

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and own vehicle

· Valid Level C First Aid and CPR Certification

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Knowledge and understanding of traditional Haida culture and values and First Nations’ health and social issues

· Knowledge and understanding of the population health approach and the social determinants of health

· Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people and circumstances

· Excellent assessment skills

· Self-directed with the ability to work independently

· Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team

· Ability to guide and supervise Home Support Workers and the ability to establish realistic performance expectations

· Strong organizational skills

· Tolerance and sensitivity to the needs of every individual and their right to be treated with respect and fairness

· Computer skills to effectively use spreadsheet and word processing programs (Excel and Word)

Wage: $43.26-$48.66
