Job Description

DESCRIPTION
Providing support to the CHN’s Marine Planning Program, the European Green Crab Field Technician will support the European Green Crab Response project under Haida Gwaii Marine Plan implementation by providing administrative, outreach and fieldwork support.

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical and administrative support for the European Green Crab Response project,
  • Develop materials for community outreach and participate in community outreach events,
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and organization of supplies,
  • Support planning and implementation of habitat monitoring protocols and trapping programs,
  • Lead training of field crews in trapping techniques and data collection,
  • Support the coordination of contracted trapping and monitoring services,
  • Support committee management and reporting, including organizing meetings and taking minutes,
  • Work with Marine Planning staff, Technical Working Groups and collaborators.

 

QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or degree in marine biology, environmental sciences or related field; or equivalent experience (2+ years’ experience in marine monitoring, fieldwork, data collection, etc.)
  • Experience working in European Green Crab response or other marine invasive species management is an asset,
  • Knowledge of Haida/Indigenous communities and experience working with First Nations is an asset,
  • Experience working with computers and in-field data collection applications,
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, experience working collaboratively as part of a team,
  • Must be willing to work outside in all seasons, and lift 50lbs comfortably,
  • Must have valid Class 5 Driver’s license,
  • Small vessel operator’s proficiency (SVOP), small domestic vessel basic safety (SDV-BS, previously MED-A3), and First Aid Certification are assets but not necessary,
  • Must be self-driven and able to work independently.
