The Senior Guide works alongside the Camp Supervisor, Junior Guides, Staff & Volunteers to deliver the Rediscovery Program to participants
Job Summary:
Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang Haida Gwaii Society is seeking motivated, dependable, and community-minded individuals to join our team as Senior Guides for the 2026 summer season.
As part of the Rediscovery Team, the Senior Guides works alongside the Camp Supervisor, Junior Guides, staff, and volunteers to deliver the Rediscovery Program directly to participants. This role requires strong leadership and the ability to foster a safe, supportive, and culturally grounded environment. Senior Guides model positive behaviour, share knowledge, mentor Junior Guides, and ensure program activities align with Haida values.
Position Details:
Start Date: June 1, 2026
Term: Fixed-term seasonal contract (June 1 – August 31, 2026), with possible extension to mid-September
Compensation:
In Camp: $250–$265 per day
In Town: $25.00–$26.50 per hour
Compensation is based on experience and qualifications
Reports To: Executive Director and Camp Supervisor
Key Duties And Responsibilities:
• Implement the Rediscovery program schedule and facilitate camp activities
• Provide leadership and mentorship to Junior Guides
• Supervise participants to ensure safety, engagement, and wellbeing
• Enforce safety protocols and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations
• Uphold cultural safety and respect for Haida laws, values, and protocols
• Follow Camp Safety Standards and Rediscovery Policies and Procedures
• Participate in daily team meetings and communicate effectively with staff and leadership
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive camp environment
• Perform other related duties as required to support camp operations
Qualifications:
• Experience in outdoor recreation (camping, hiking, group activities)
• Strong knowledge of the natural and cultural history of Haida Gwaii
• Beginner-level Xaad Kil and knowledge of Haida song and dance or willingness to learn
• Experience at T’aalan Stl’ang and surrounding areas preferred
• Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and emotional maturity
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
• Strong personal wellness practices for extended time in camp
• Strong communication skills and positive attitude
Conditions of Employment:
• Cleared Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
• Wilderness Advanced First Aid (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start)
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and completing multi-day hikes
• Ability to work in an isolated camp setting for up to 15 days (maximum 20 days)
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with youth
• Valid Class 5 or equivalent driver’s licence
• Bronze Medallion, Food Safe, and Red Cross Standard First Aid (assets)
• Must adhere to a substance-free work environment during camp sessions
