Job Title: Recreation and Economic Development Manager
Department: Economic Development Recreation
Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week
Salary Range: $38.47-$43.96 per hour
Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Recreation and Economic Development Manager is responsible for advancing the economic vitality, livability, and quality of life of Daajing Giids through delivering integrated economic development initiatives, recreation services, youth programming, and revenue-generating services such as municipal campground management and facility rentals.
Job Duties:
1.Economic Development
• Develop, implement, oversee, and monitor Daajing Giid’s economic development strategy aligned with Council priorities and regional initiatives where appropriate.
• Administers business-facing programs such as façade improvements, and community events
• Works directly with economic development partners and the Visitor Centre to identify opportunities and supports
• Oversees municipal revenue-generating assets such as campgrounds, facility rentals and rental agreements for municipally owned properties.
• Manage public spaces, recreation assets and amenities that are essential to attracting residents and workforce and enhancing quality of life for Daajing Giids residents.
• Act as a liaison between the business community and local government council.
• Research grant opportunities and liaise with the grant writer to secure funding for local initiatives.
2. Facility Rentals & Municipal Spaces
• Coordinate and administer municipal facility booking (e.g., Youth Centre, Spirit Square, Fire Hall and Haydn Turner campground)
• Coordinate with staff and user groups to prepare facilities and ensure proper post-use condition
• Ensure compliance with bylaws, insurance, and safety requirements
• Tracks revenues and supports sustainable municipal income stream
3. Youth Centre Operations
• Oversee daily operations of the Youth Centre, ensuring a safe and inclusive space
• Recruit, schedule, and support Youth Centre staff
• Liaise with Northern Health licensing for application and maintenance of Group Child Care license
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
• Source grant funding for operations and programming for sustainable programming. Manage Youth centre budget.
• Plan and deliver youth programs, events, and drop-in activities
4. Recreation & Community Services
• Support parks, trails, campground, and public amenities as key assets for tourism and economic development
• Work with community groups, volunteers, and partners to deliver services
• Coordinates community events and seasonal programming as well as public engagement sessions
5. Community Development & Communications
• Develop content for municipal communications, marketing, social media accounts and Voyent notification systems. Update website regularly.
• Promote programs, events, and local opportunities
6. Administration & Reporting
• Prepare reports for Council and senior management
• Assist with budgets, grant applications, and program tracking
• Maintain records, policies, and operational documentation
• Ensure compliance with municipal policies and relevant legislation
7. Additional Duties
• Provide cross-departmental support during staff absences or peak periods
• Act as back up to the Deputy Corporate Officer for meeting set up and minute taking during Council or committee meetings when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Financial Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing and managing program and operational budgets
Track revenues and expenditures related to rentals, programs, and grants
Support grant administration, reporting, and compliance
Working Conditions:
Combination of office, outdoor, and facility-based work
Frequent interaction with the public, community groups, and partners
Evening and weekend work required
Occasional physical activity (event setup, light lifting, site visits)
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in economic development, recreation, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
2–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a rural or small community setting
Experience coordinating programs, events, or community initiatives
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Experience with grant management, budgeting, or community engagement is an asset
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
