Personal Loans Officer (PLO)

Additional 10% ISO added to hourly rate. Eligible for priority referral.

About the Role
The Personal Loans Officer (PLO) provides trusted financial advice and lending solutions to members, supporting their financial well-being while growing and managing a personal loan portfolio. This role builds long-term member relationships, delivers sound credit decisions, and contributes to branch growth through high-quality service, sales, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Member Service & Lending
- Provide lending solutions including consumer loans, lines of credit, credit cards, credit insurance, and related deposit products.
- Assess credit applications through credit checks, security inspections, and analysis of financial information.
- Promote, sell, renew, and administer lending and investment products within approved limits and policies.
- Monitor loan portfolios, identify early signs of delinquency, and initiate appropriate collection activity.
- Identify member needs and cross-sell products, making referrals to Financial Services, Business Services, Financial Planning, and Insurance.
- Proactively contact members to retain and grow existing relationships and identify new opportunities.
- Resolve member concerns professionally, escalating when required.
- Contribute to branch sales targets and business plan goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with members, referral partners, and community contacts to enhance the Credit Union’s profile.
- Actively promote the benefits of Credit Union membership to grow the member base.
Operational Effectiveness
- Maintain accurate and current member and loan documentation.
- Support branch operations and assist front-line services as required.
- Identify process improvements and support a collaborative, team-focused environment.
- Participate in training and cross-training opportunities.
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with privacy, AML, regulatory, and internal policy requirements.
- Exercise sound judgment within assigned lending and override authorities.
- Accurately complete documentation and ensure proper risk mitigation practices are followed.
Administrative
- Act as a signing authority and provide overrides as required.
- Provide guidance and hands-on support to branch staff.
- Assist with branch opening and closing procedures when needed.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma required; post-secondary education preferred.
- Completion of sales training required.
- Credit Union or financial services training (e.g., CCUA) an asset.
Experience
- Previous consumer and small lending, sales and service experience is required.
- 3+ years of previous financial services in a credit union or equivalent financial environment.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong sales, relationship-building, and service orientation.
- Solid understanding of lending products, credit risk, and loan administration.
- Excellent communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
- High level of accountability, initiative, and professionalism.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and banking systems.
