Niislaa Naay Healing House Society is well funded and in the early stage of operating as an independent Society. Niislaa Naay services the community of Old Massett, as well the neighbouring communities. Niislaa Naay hosts many interactive community programs such as traditional wellness, mental health, community health, midwifery, maternal health, home care, youth services, dentistry, patient travel, and primary care services. Services are provided from three locations: the youth centre, wellness house, and the Niislaa Nay Healing House. Many programs that are offered have a land-based healing approach incorporating the culture and traditions of the Haida people.

Job Description

Salary: $48.66

Reports to: Operations Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a Mental Health Clinician to join the Mobile Support Team at Niislaa Naay Healing House Society. This role provides culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centered mental health support to Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. The clinician works collaboratively with Elders, Traditional Healers, community members, and interdisciplinary teams to support holistic wellness, healing, and connection to culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct intake, assessment, and treatment planning, integrating cultural, historical, and personal contexts.

• Provide individual, family, and group therapy, including healing circles, in collaboration with Elders or cultural knowledge keepers.

• Develop and implement culturally appropriate care plans and community-based programs tailored to client needs.

• Monitor, evaluate, and document treatment outcomes while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, community partners, and external agencies to provide wrap-around supports and referrals.

• Provide consultation, education, and wellness guidance to clients, families, and community members.

• Bridge clients to appropriate community services and supports to enhance holistic wellness.

• Demonstrate ongoing commitment to best practices and client-centered care.

Education & Training:

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or a related field.

• 3–5 years of clinical experience providing mental health services, including assessment, intervention, and treatment planning.

• Experience working with Indigenous communities using culturally safe, trauma-informed, and decolonizing approaches.

• Valid BC Driver’s License required.

Preferred Experience & Knowledge:

• Commitment to learning and applying Haida laws, Indigenous healing practices, and cultural knowledge to support services aligned with community values and historical context.

• Ability to develop individualized care plans integrating clinical approaches with Indigenous healing practices.
