POSITION OVERVIEW

Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors with a mandate to provide employment programming and training to enhance the opportunities of the residents of the North Coast, Haida Gwaii and Bella Bella. HSEDS provides resources for jobseekers, newcomers, employers, and new entrepreneurs. Our mission is to serve and build connections for people to reach their employment, training, and settlement goals.

As a Junior Office Clerk, you’ll support the daily operations of our Masset office and assist the WorkBC team in delivering employment services to the public. This is a valuable opportunity to gain real-world experience in administration, customer service, and community engagement while working in a supportive, team-based environment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet and assist clients and visitors in the reception area and Resource Centre.
  • Support individuals using computers for job search activities, resumes, and applications.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating job postings and community information boards.
  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and provide basic program information.
  • Schedule client appointments and support staff with file organization and scanning.
  • Help organize office and resource materials, ensuring spaces are tidy and welcoming.
  • Provide administrative support for local outreach and community projects as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and special events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled as a student (returning to school in the fall).
  • Interest in office administration, customer service, or community development.
  • Friendly, approachable, and able to communicate clearly with the public.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, and internet navigation).
  • Organized, reliable, and willing to learn new tasks.
  • Able to work well both independently and as part of a small team.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check prior to employment.
