Job Summary

Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang Haida Gwaii Society is seeking motivated, dependable, and community-minded individuals to join our team as Junior Guides for the 2026 summer season.


The Junior Guide position is an entry-level leadership role within the Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang program. This role is designed for individuals interested in developing skills in youth mentorship, land-based education, cultural facilitation, and community leadership. 


As a member of the Rediscovery Team, the Junior Guide works closely with the Camp Supervisor and Senior Guides to help deliver the Rediscovery Program in a safe, enriching, and culturally grounded environment. Junior Guides play an active role in daily camp life while building confidence, responsibility, and leadership capacity.


Through mentorship, hands-on experience, and ongoing learning, this role serves as a foundation for future growth within Rediscovery, including potential advancement to Senior Guide positions in future seasons.


Rediscovery is committed to building Haida leadership capacity by supporting emerging leaders in developing the skills, cultural grounding, and experience needed to guide future generations at T’aalan Stl’ang.


Position Details:

Start Date: June 1, 2026

Term: Fixed-term seasonal contract (June 1 to August 31,2026)

Compensation:

In Camp: $200 per day

In Town (administrative/training days): $20.00 per hour

Reports To: Executive Director and Camp Supervisor


Key Duties And Responsibilities:

• Assist in coordinating and implementing the Rediscovery program schedule 

• Support the facilitation of workshops, cultural activities, and outdoor experiences 

• Supervise and positively engage with camp participants to ensure safety, inclusion, and well-being 

• Collaborate with Senior Guides to prepare and deliver daily activities 

• Uphold established Camp Safety Standards and Rediscovery policies and procedures 

• Participate actively in daily team meetings, planning sessions, and debriefs 

• Model respectful behaviour rooted in Haida values and community responsibility 

• Maintain clear, professional communication with participants, staff, and leadership 

• Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and a willingness to learn 

• Support overall camp operations and perform additional duties as required


Qualifications:

• Interest in youth leadership and land-based programming 

• Experience or familiarity with outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and group recreation 

• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, the natural and cultural history of Haida Gwaii 

• Interest in or beginner-level knowledge of X̱aad Kil, Haida song, and dance (an asset)

• Familiarity with T’aalan Stl’ang and surrounding areas (an asset)

• Ability to work positively within a team environment

• Healthy coping strategies and readiness for extended time in camp

• Strong communication skills and a positive attitude


Conditions of Employment:

• Cleared Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check

• Medically fit to perform physical duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs and participating in multi-day hikes across varied terrain

• Willingness to work in an isolated camp setting at T’aalan Stl’ang for periods of up to 15 consecutive days (maximum 20 days)

• Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth (preferred)

• Bronze Medallion, Food Safe, and Red Cross Standard or Wilderness First Aid (assets)

• Class 5 or Novice Driver’s Licence (an asset)

• Must adhere to a substance-free work environment during camp sessions
