Business Unit: Housing Department
Location: Lax Kw’alaams, British Columbia
Reporting to: Senior Housing Manager
The Lax Kw’alaams Housing Department has an exciting and immediate opening for a Full-Time Housing Clerk. As a key member of the team, the Housing Clerk provides essential administrative support to the day-to-day operations of the department. This role includes managing tenant records, processing housing applications and rental payments, and assisting with housing-related documentation. The Housing Clerk serves as a primary point of contact for tenant inquiries and maintains accurate, up-to-date filing systems. The position also supports compliance with applicable housing policies, procedures, and regulations, helping to ensure efficient and well-organized housing services.
Responsibilities:
General
- Coordinate communication correspondence from tenant in respect of their rent accounts
- Maintain tenants former and current rent accounts, setting up agreements and arrangements to clear arrears
- Provide support, guidance, and assistance to the Band’s Housing Committee
- Provide administrative back up to the Housing team, inputting data onto computerized systems
- Track and collect rent payments, security deposits, and follow up and address late payments and eviction notices
- Assist in the process of acquiring tenants by marketing available units, accepting and reviewing applications, and preparing and tracking rental agreements
- Coordinate move-in and move-out dates, including unit inspection and related paperwork
- Ensure that the band’s housing policies and by-laws are consistently implemented and enforced
- Work with tenants to resolve housing concerns and complaints and maintain a record of issues addressed
- Maintain a record of required housing maintenance and assess and prioritize work to be assigned to the maintenance staff
Note: Perform all Other duties within the scope of the position and as determined by the Senior Housing Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Completion of a secondary school diploma (Grade 12)
- Post-secondary education in office administration, business administration, or a related field (Asset)
Experience
- Previous experience in office administration, business administration, or a related field
- Two years of experience in a similar position (Asset)

- Ability to manage priorities
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Experience with office procedures and a computerized environment
- Able to deal effectively with the public
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication
- Skilled in Microsoft Office

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Physical Demand
- You may have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment, computers and attending meetings
Mental Demand
- You will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time
- You may have to communicate and deal with tenants that may come may be distressed

- Valid Driver’s License (Class 5)
Classification/Pay Scale
- $ 27.51
