Reporting to: Health Director
The Lax Kw’alaams Health Department has an exciting and immediate opening for a Casual Home Care Support worker. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for providing household assistance to clients in their homes with care and respect. You will help with daily tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment, while also offering companionship and supporting their participation in community activities. Additionally, this role is responsible for observing and reporting any changes in a client’s condition to the appropriate personnel, always promoting the dignity, comfort, and well-being of the clients in our community.
Responsibilities:
General
- Deliver services in an appropriate, caring and respectful manner
- Takes direction from Home Care Nurse or Supervisor
- Cleaning bathrooms, tubs, toilet, sinks, floors
- Laundry including washing, drying and folding as needed
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors
- Wipe and clean windows and mirrors
- Clean kitchen areas, stove top and wash dishes during each visit
- Clean oven and fridge once a month
- Provide care and companionship for individuals and families
- Escort clients to medical appointments as needed
- Assist in making meals for clients in their homes if client unable or has difficulty
- Follow Health and Safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, working effectively and cooperatively with others; attend and participate in team meetings
- Must be responsible and ethical, shows compassion and maintains confidentiality
- Support community engagement initiatives including workshops for men, women, children and families
- Observe and report any changes in the client’s physical, emotional or mental condition to the
- appropriate supervisor
- Note: Perform all Other duties within the scope of the position and as determined by the Health Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Post-secondary education in healthcare, cleaning or related field (asset)
Experience
- Experience with cleaning (asset)
- Experience working in health care or related field (asset)

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Physical Demand
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, lift up to 40 lbs and performing repetitive motions
Mental Demands
- Ability to manage several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time
Condition of Employment

- Follow all guidelines harmoniously and cooperatively, creating a team approach in their duties for the Band’s future success
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Valid Driver’s License (Class 5)
Classification/Pay Scale
- $25.83
- As per the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ Local 2365 Collective Agreement
