POSITION:                             Health Director

Department:                        Located in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii

Reporting to:                         Board of Directors

Working Conditions:            Mondays to Fridays 8:30 – 4:30

Salary Range:                       $52.88 – $64.90/hour

 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Health Director is responsible for the provision of leadership and direction necessary to plan, organize, implement, maintain, and evaluate the Health Services of the organization. They lead the senior management team in a collaborative approach which demonstrates considerable judgement when dealing with clients and ensures that the health services provided are culturally relevant, have a high standard of care and service, and promote the wellbeing of the community. The Health Director will be responsible for human and financial resources, and will engage and support department heads and all the employees of the Society to be fiscally responsible, collaborative and respectful. The Health Director will meet with the Board of Directors on a monthly basis and report on progress to achieving the strategic goals of the XaaydaGa Dlaang Society.

 

The Health Director will be committed to the Haida Model of Health Service Delivery, focus on building positive programming, and a positive culture aligned with the four Haida Laws:

Education, Training & Experience

ð         Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences or Administration, or related management courses with First Nations Health Directors Association (FNHDA)

ð         5 years of management experience in community or health services

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

ð         Knowledge and understanding of Haida culture, values and impacts of intergenerational trauma and colonization

ð         Excellent leadership and collaboration skills

ð         Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people and circumstances

ð         Understanding of governance, and experience working with a Board of Directors

ð         Valid Class 5 Driver’s license

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

ð         All staff must maintain confidentiality of all records of business within the Health Centre

ð         Employees must abide by the Skidegate Health Centre’s Code of Conduct

ð         Criminal Record Check is required
