The Haida Language Teacher is responsible for teaching, promoting, and revitalizing the Haida language through culturally grounded, age‑appropriate instruction.

An employment opportunities exist for Continuing Part-Time (0.429 FTE) Haida Language and Culture Teachers effective September 1, 2026 at Daaxiigan Sk’adaa Née K-12 School.
Requirements:
· A university teaching major, or its equivalent, directly related to the teaching position;
· Understanding and being committed to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including the eradication of existing and persistent equity gaps for specific groups of children;
· Working knowledge of and experience in Haida language and culture as approved by the Old Masset Village Council Language Authority.
· Ability to design curriculum and instruction and assessment or personalization of student learning;
· Successful teaching experience in the position or in a similar position;
· High level of skills related to successful classroom management, and to the development and maintenance of a positive classroom climate;
· Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, instruct and evaluate learning activities for students’ strengths and for their academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs;
· Proven interpersonal skills, work ethic and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, education assistants, parents and administrators;
· The ability to work in a team situation daily in the classroom;
· Experience with multi-grade classes an asset;
· Understanding of local resources and environment;
· Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) certification.
Competitive Salary: $32,353 - $51,575 per annum
Remote and Rural Allowance: $1,502 per annum
Travel Allowance: $517 per annum
Teacher of Indigenous Language Allowance $8,000 per annum
Up to $2,000 relocation allowance upon submission of receipts
Teachers currently employed with the district need only submit a letter of intent.
