Job Description

To support our goals for driving business growth at our year-round remote lodge operations, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to be our ‘boots-on-the-ground’ leader for this diversified operation. In addition to overseeing staff responsible for daily operations, the General Manager will provide key input towards developing our short, mid, and long-range strategic plans to ensure we are a world class tourism facility that continues to attract new and returning guests to the resort each season.


The ideal candidate has previous experience working in a senior management role for a remote lodge operation or similar wilderness lodge operations with high-level leadership and decision-making authority. You demonstrate a commitment to advancing Indigenous cultural awareness and developing your personal cultural competencies. You demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and maintain diplomacy in all working relationships, and you have experience supporting the development of skills in others. You are a “boots-on-the-ground” manager, and you will roll up your sleeves and jump in to support staff and you use these opportunities as teachable moments for mentoring and skills development. Your past successes in remote lodge operations keep you confident in taking on new challenges. You have an established professional network, and you understand the logistics related to the work. You have a post-secondary education and are committed to advancing Indigenous economic development. Your qualifications include:


  • Minimum five (5) years experience in hospitality and tourism accommodations and property management operations. Willing to consider candidates with experience and enterprise skill set in similar field of work with deep understanding of remote tourism operations.
  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in business management or hospitality management. Willing to consider candidates without post-secondary education, provided they have a combination of significant training and experience in remote lodge operations.
  • Proven and successful administrative leadership experience within the hospitality industry.
  • Budget planning and budget management skills, and reporting.
  • Deep understanding of tourism and guest services and creating guest experiences.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally within a First Nation or Indigenous economic development context.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational change leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team that includes administrative staff and front-line service workers.
  • Demonstrated experience and diplomacy working with individuals at all levels.
  • Understanding of tourism and emerging trends in Indigenous economic development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management platforms.
  • Strong facilitation, public speaking, and community engagement skills.
  • Diplomacy in pressure situations with calm, steady demeanor; builds positive relationships with all.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings; professional verbal/written communication.
  • Identification and resolution skills; strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Satisfactory completion of a police information check (criminal records).
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.


The following are considered assets:

 

  • Experience with Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada Accreditation Program.
  • Experience reporting to boards.
  • Knowledge of the Heiltsuk Nation’s history, culture, and traditional territory is a significant asset.
