Job Title: Executive Director (ED) 

Location: Prince Rupert

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Wages: $28.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

The Prince Rupert & District Chamber of Commerce is a member-driven organization dedicated to supporting local business growth, advocacy, economic development, and community collaboration throughout Prince Rupert and the surrounding region.

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operations of the Prince Rupert & District Chamber of Commerce. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board, Chamber members, community stakeholders, government agencies, and partner organizations to advance the Chamber’s mission, strategic priorities, and advocacy initiatives.

The Executive Director serves as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the Chamber and is responsible for membership growth and retention, financial oversight, event management, advocacy, communications, and organizational development.

This position requires a dynamic, community-focused leader with strong relationship-building, organizational, and strategic planning skills.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Governance

  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to implement the Chamber’s strategic plan, policies, and annual objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to support the Chamber’s mission and long-term sustainability.
  • Attend Board meetings, prepare reports, agendas, and supporting documents.
  • Advise the Board on operational matters, risks, opportunities, and emerging business issues.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable policies, bylaws, and regulatory requirements. 

Membership Development & Relations

  • Lead membership recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Chamber members and the local business community.
  • Respond to member inquiries and ensure excellent member service delivery.
  • Develop member programs, networking opportunities, and value-added initiatives.
  • Promote Chamber membership benefits and encourages member participation.

Advocacy & Community Engagement

  • Represent the Chamber in the community and at business, government, and regional meetings.
  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that support local businesses and economic development.
  • Foster partnerships with local governments, Indigenous communities, tourism organizations, educational institutions, and regional stakeholders.
  • Act as the Chamber spokesperson for media and public relations initiatives.
  • Promote the economic interests of the Prince Rupert business community.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the Chamber’s annual operating budget in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.
  • Monitor revenues, expenditures, cash flow, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure accurate bookkeeping, reporting, and audit preparation.
  • Identify sponsorship, grant, and funding opportunities.
  • Maintain sound financial controls and operational efficiencies.    

Event Planning & Program Management

  • Oversee the planning and execution of Chamber events, including:
  • Business After Business events
  • Luncheons
  • Annual General Meeting
  • Business Excellence Awards
  • Networking events
  • Community and business engagement initiatives
  • Coordinate sponsorship opportunities and event partnerships.
  • Ensure successful event promotion, logistics, and member engagement. 

 Marketing & Communications

  • Oversee Chamber communications including newsletters, social media, website content, and promotional materials.
  • Develop marketing strategies to enhance Chamber visibility and community engagement.
  • Maintain consistent branding and professional public communications.
  • Prepare media releases, member updates, and advocacy communications.

Administration & Operations

  • Manage day-to-day Chamber operations and office administration.
  • Maintain accurate membership databases and organizational records.
  • Oversee operational policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Supervise staff, contractors, volunteers, and interns as applicable.
  • Ensure efficient and professional office operations.

Qualifications & Experience

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, Economic Development, or a related field. 
  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership or management experience in a nonprofit, Chamber, business association, or community organization.
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors and governance structures.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Experience in event planning, sponsorship development, and community engagement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media platforms, CRM/database systems, and digital communications tools.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position based in Prince Rupert, BC.
  • Some evening and weekend work required for events and meetings.
  • Occasional travel may be required for conferences, advocacy, or Chamber-related activities. 

Compensation

  • Wage range: $28.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Vacation and benefits package may be available.
