The Education Assistant summer student will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of Hecate Strait’s Training Centre at our Masset Location. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a student interested in career development, adult education, employment services, or community programming.
Working closely with the Training Centre team, the Liaison will help welcome clients, assist instructors, support program administration, and contribute to a positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Participant & Program Support
• Welcome learners, job seekers, and visitors to the Training Centre.
• Assist with participant intake, sign-in, attendance tracking, and onboarding.
• Support instructors with classroom setup, technology, materials, and resource preparation.
• Help coordinate workshops, orientations, and multi-day training sessions.
Communication & Outreach
• Provide clear communication to participants about schedules, expectations, and available supports.
• Help maintain course calendars, bulletin boards, and digital communication spaces.
• Assist with outreach to community members, Indigenous partners, community organizations, and local employers to promote training opportunities.
Administration
• Maintain accurate participant records, digital files, and data tracking.
• Assist with surveys, feedback collection, and compiling learner outcomes for internal reporting.
• Support administrative tasks such as printing, filing, scheduling, and resource organization.
Centre Operations
• Ensure training rooms and common areas remain clean, organized, and welcoming.
• Monitor supply levels and prepare learning kits as needed.
• Follow organizational safety procedures and contribute to a respectful learning environment.
Qualifications
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-service focus.
• Comfortable supporting diverse adult learners, Permanent Residents, youth, and job seekers.
• Organized, and able to work independently within a team-based environment.
• Reliable and has an energetic positive attitude
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, online forms and spreadsheets).
Assets
• Interest in employment services, training, social services, or community development.
• Experience in customer service, reception, peer mentoring, or tutoring.
• Knowledge of Haida Gwaii communities and local labour market.
• Comfort with social media or digital communication tools.
