Location: Lax Kw’alaam, British Columbia 

Reporting to: Daycare Manager 

The Lax Kw’alaams Daycare has an exciting and immediate opening for two (2) Full-Time Early Childhood Educators in the Infant and Toddler program. As a key member of the team, these positions are responsible for planning and implementing a culturally based child care program that is designed to give each child an opportunity to participate in experiences that will enable them to reach their full potential, by creating environments that address the 5 domains for development (physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional and adaptive). The Early Childhood Educator – Infant and Toddler will provide nurturing care and high-quality early learning experiences for infants and toddlers (0 – 36 months). This role combines caregiving with educational support, guided by the BC Early Learning Framework. 

 Responsibilities: 

General 

  • ▪ Provide a safe, welcoming, clean, and nurturing environment for infants and toddlers 
  • ▪ Share responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of the room and ensuring program equipment is kept in good repair; assist with washing, disinfecting, and properly storing toys and equipment 
  • ▪ Attend to the basic needs of infants and toddlers by providing nurturing care, including interacting with children, feeding, diapering, toileting, and supporting rest and nap routines 
  • ▪ Observe and respond to children’s individual developmental cues and needs 
  • ▪ Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities that support gross/fine motor, language, and social-emotional development 
  • ▪ Maintain positive, respectful interactions that promote confidence and autonomy 
  • ▪ Use a developmentally appropriate curriculum (e.g., play-based, nature-based, or other early learning frameworks) 
  • ▪ Document children’s progress and daily routines (e.g., logs, observations, reports) 
  • ▪ Adapt activities to meet individual needs and interests 
  • ▪ Communicate regularly with families about children’s progress, routines, and needs 
  • ▪ Build relationships with the child and family 
  • ▪ Work collaboratively with other educators and supervisors to ensure consistent care 
  • ▪ Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development as required 
  • ▪ Ensure compliance with childcare licensing regulations and safety standards 
  • ▪ Ensure compliance with the ECE BC Code of Ethics 
  • ▪ Follow health protocols, including illness prevention practices 

Note: Perform all Other duties within the scope of the and as determined by the Daycare Manager 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education 

  • ▪ Infant and Toddler Certificate 
  • ▪ First Aid and CPR Certification 
  • ▪ Special Needs Certificate (asset) 
  • ▪ WHIMIS Certificate (asset) 
  • ▪ Food Safe (asset) 

Experience 

  • ▪ Experience working with infants and toddles (asset) 
  • ▪ Experience working with children (asset) 

Competency 

  • ▪ Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality 
  • ▪ Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • ▪ Ability to manage high-stress situations in a calm and professional manner 
  • ▪ Ability to maintain accurate documentation and notes

Physical Demands and Working Environment: Physical Demand 

  • ▪ Lift, carry, and hold infants and toddlers safely; bend, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor for extended periods 
  • ▪ Moving, standing, walking and performing repetitive motions such as feeding, diapering, and assisting children 

Mental Demands 

  • ▪ Maintain focus and attention while supervising multiple children and responding quickly to emergencies 
  • ▪ Manage high-stress situations calmly, demonstrating patience, empathy, and positive interactions throughout the day 

Condition of Employment 

  • ▪ You will adhere to the Lax Kw’alaams Band Code of Conduct, Code of Confidentiality, Social Media Policy and any other Policies in the Human Resource Manual 
  • ▪ Follow all guidelines harmoniously and cooperatively, creating a team approach in their duties for the Band’s future success 
  • ▪ Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search 
  • ▪ Valid Driver’s License (Class 5) 

Classification/Pay Scale 

  • ▪ $32.00/HR
  • ▪ As per the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ Local 2365 Collective Agreement 
  • ▪ You can expect a supportive work environment, a total compensation package which includes a competitive wage, extended health and dental benefits and a pension plan
