Job Description

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY — DGVC MANAGER The Friends of the DG Visitor Centre is a non-profit society that operates the Daajing Giids Visitor Centre (DGVC) in partnership with Parks Canada and Destination BC. We are currently searching for a manager who will oversee our daily operations. We are looking for a local resident who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and has an interest in and some knowledge of the natural and human history of Haida Gwaii and Gwaii Haanas, as well as island-wide visitor services and attractions. The ability to provide great customer service to tourists is fundamental. This position will also require the successful applicant either to have or be able to quickly develop the skills to: • Manage a small office, including financial protocols for our bookkeeper • Manage time and priorities for self and staff • Manage retail sales • Schedule and report at meetings of the Board of Governors • Use MS Office software, online resources, and social media • Recruit, train, schedule and supervise 2 - 5 staff • Train staff to industry standards of courtesy, helpfulness, accuracy, and dress • Have a driver’s license and access to transportation • Communicate and network professionally This position is seasonal: May through September 35 hrs/wk; April and October 16 – 20 hrs/wk; and while we close to the public in November through March, 4 hrs/wk. Closed hours are flexible but must use either DGVC’s local or Manager’s remote resources to complete grant applications in December and January, respond to emails and manage our public garbage bins. Wages are hourly, with a minimum training wage of $27.00/hr. Upon completion of training, the wage will rise to $30.00/hr and will increase annually by $1.00/hr.
