Job Title: CERTIFIED DENTAL ASSISTANT-CDA (HEU)

Reporting To: Dental Team Lead
Working Conditions: Monday to Friday. Call outs for emergencies may be necessary.
Salary Range: $36.48-$40.53/hr

Objective:
Responsible to oversee the operation and implementation of the dental program and assist the Dentist with procedures.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum Certified Dental Assistant Diploma.
- Qualify for registration with the BC College of Oral Health Professionals
- Minimum three years’ experience in dental assisting, with some dental office managing experience.
- Current CPR (level C) certificate.
Additional Requirements:
- Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Knowledge of the Haida culture is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment to meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
- Ability to operate and maintain dental equipment.
Duties:
Under the direction of a dentist, with limited supervision, performs Certified Dental Assistant duties, as outlined by the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. These include:
- Recording medical, dental, and nutritional histories.
- Maintaining patient files, databases, and charts.
- Assisting with examinations and clinical procedures.
- Performing duties as delegated by the Dentist (i.e., x-rays, sealants, Jeltrate impressions, suture removal, polishing teeth, fluoride application, etc.).
- Performing infection control procedures necessary for the maintenance of an appropriate clinical working environment (i.e., instrument sterilization, monitoring effectiveness of sterilizers, disinfecting operatories, etc.).
- Providing oral health information to individuals and families.
- Organizing of dental specialty clinics (i.e., oral surgery)
- Ordering and maintaining of dental supplies and inventory (i.e., monitor expiration dates of supplies, keep emergency kit up-to-date, etc.).
- Organizing and ensuring the maintenance of dental equipment on regular scheduled basis.
- Orienting Dental Resident, visiting Dentist, or other staff to the clinic, procedures and protocols.
- Providing supervision to the Dental Receptionist.
- Organizing and/or assisting with oral health prevention education programs (directly or in conjunction with other health programs) to individuals or groups.
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the Dentist, or Health Centre Supervisor.
