Job Description

The Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang Haida Gwaii Society is seeking a reliable, organized, and positive individual to join our team as a Camp Cook for the 2026 summer season. Our program provides Haida cultural, stewardship camps for youth (ages 10 - 18) at T'aalan Stl'ang (Lepas Bay) in the Duu Guusd Heritage Site/Conservancy on the North end of Haida Gwaii.


Position Details

• Start Date: June 1, 2026

• Term: June 1 – August 31, 2026 (possible extension to mid-September)

Location: Camp-based position at T’aalan Stl’ang (formerly known as Lepas Bay). The Cook will reside and work on-site during camp sessions.

• Compensation: $300 per day in camp | $30.00 per hour in town

 

Responsible to: Rediscovery T’aalan St’lang Haida Gwaii Society Executive Director.


Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Plan menus cooperatively and prepare complete meals within budget

• Purchase groceries and manage food inventory

• Monitor food quality and minimize waste

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety

• Operate and maintain kitchen facilities and equipment safely

• Support a positive, respectful camp atmosphere

 

Knowledge & Skills

• Experience cooking for larger groups (off-grid or camp experience preferred)

• Ability to prepare meals efficiently and on schedule

• Knowledge of traditional Haida foods (an asset)

• Ability to bake bread

• Strong teamwork and leadership skills

• Physically capable of working in a camp setting

 

Conditions of Employment

• Valid FoodSafe Certification (required)

• Cleared Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector)

• Willingness to work in an isolated camp setting for up to 15–20 days

• Valid Novice or Class 5 Driver’s Licence

• First Aid certification (asset)
