VESSEL OPERATIONS AGENT POSITION AVAILABLE

G.W. Nickerson Co. Ltd. is a long-established Northern B.C. ship agency providing professional marine agency and logistics services to the shipping industry. With decades of experience serving vessels in the region, we pride ourselves on reliability, integrity, and exceptional customer service.

We are seeking a part time Vessel Operations Agent to join our Prince Rupert office. This role is ideal for someone with strong organizational and communication skills who enjoys a dynamic, fast-paced work environment. Experience in vessel agency or port operations is an asset but not required. We are willing to train the right individual.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of vessel port calls, including pre-arrival planning, in-port activities, and post-departure documentation.
  • Attend vessels on arrival and departure, representing the company professionally and ensuring smooth communication between the Master, port authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare and manage vessel documentation and agency reporting in accordance with company procedures and local regulations.
  • Act as a liaison for vessel crews, arranging services such as transportation, crew changes, provisions, and other requirements.
  • Coordinate with terminals, customs, immigration, pilots, and service providers to ensure efficient port operations.
  • Ensure operational compliance with company policies, local regulations, and safety standards.
  • Participate in on-call duty rotations, including some evenings and weekends.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and general computer proficiency.
  • Full, valid driver’s license (Class 5 or equivalent).
  • Bondable and capable of meeting port access security requirements.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior maritime, logistics, or transportation industry experience is an asset but not essential.

  • Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience ($20-25 per hour).

Schedule

  • Regular office hours during weekdays
  • On-call responsibilities tied to vessel arrivals and departures.
  • Some work may occur during evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on vessel schedules.
  • Flexibility is essential, as vessel operations can change on short notice.
  • Training and coordination provided to ensure coverage and support from the operations team.
