Under the direction of the Vessel Operations Superintendent, the Master will contribute to the success of SAAM Towage by conducting the handling and command of the vessel, supervising the operation, navigation, and management of the vessel, and crew.
Tugboat Operator (Master ASD)
Under the direction of the Vessel Operations Superintendent, the Master will contribute to the success of SAAM Towage by conducting the handling and command of the vessel, supervising the operation, navigation, and management of the vessel, and crew. They will enforce the company's integrated management system and lead the safety and administration of all aspects of ship masters business to efficiently deliver services following current government, industry and company’s regulations.
The Tour-of-Duty for the Master will include shift, callout and continuous work in a rotation of 7 days on, 7 days off, or 14 days on 14 days off, with some variation based on operational scheduling for service delivery.

To apply you must have ALL of the following minimum requirements:
§ Master 500 Gross Tonnage (Domestic) Certificate of Competency
§ Experience as an ASD Ship Assist Master;
§ Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate;
§ Marine Emergency Duties Certificates
§ Marine Basic First Aid Certificate;
§ Ability to become familiar with the company’s SHE-Q and Integrated Management System.
§ Ability to become a member in good standing with the CMSG;
§ Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
§ Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.

Some of the Job functions for this role will be:
▪ Perform all maneuvers, assessing and deciding on optimal execution to achieve maximum efficiency, service quality, and environmental protection by abiding to all regulatory and company safety standards.
▪ Supervise onboard personnel, schedule tasks, evaluate their performance, and promote safety in the performance of their duties to ensure the availability of the tugboat, the well-being and safety of individuals, compliance with processes, company standards, and current regulations.
▪ Prepare and plan documentation, materials, and equipment requirements, verify tools, machinery, emergency equipment, tugboat fuel level, and food inventory to ensure the operational availability of the fleet, maneuvers, and activities on the tugboat, maximizing the equipment’s useful life.
▪ Verify and report on the status of the tugboat and its equipment, safety, rest time, equipment maintenance, and training according to the stipulated schedule to achieve compliance with organizational objectives in terms of safety, operational availability, and the environment.
▪ Ensure that the vessel and crew have the necessary documents, accreditations, standards, and processes for operations according to regulations and current standards to ensure compliance with the obligations specified by the Maritime Authority regulations, and customer requirements.
▪ With the guidance of the Vessel Operation Superintendents, plan and execute drills, emergency plans, instruction, and training of tugboat personnel, in everything related to emergency services, according to the laws and regulations in force to ensure and enforce Safety Standards in Ports in case of emergencies, before, during, and after maneuvers.
▪ Provide guidance and training to deckhands in training, to ensure opportunity for career growth to all individuals deemed ready by the Vessel Operation Superintendents.
▪ Ensuring timely reporting of all incidents, accidents, near misses, and deficiencies, regardless of their size and potential damage perception, by following standard procedures as per the Integrated Management System, to provide proper attention to any potential issue and minimize operational vulnerabilities.
