JOB OPPORTUNITY: Secretariat

SALARY: $33 Per Hour

START DATE: August 2025

HOURS OF WORK: 10 - 25 Hours Per Month

LOCATION: To be determined


The Indigenous Education Council (IEC) (XaaydaGa Sk’aadGa Gud Ad Is / Sk'adee aa gud ahl tl'a kiluhl ‘laa) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Secretariat to provide confidential and executive-level administrative support. Reporting to the IEC Chair, the Secretariat will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of Council activities, including organizing meetings, managing communications, and providing logistical support. This position may be eligible for remote work, with occasional travel as required, subject to approval by the IEC. This position is available to any individual residing on Haida Gwaii.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and distribute IEC meeting agenda packages.
  • Attend IEC meetings, take accurate minutes, and distribute them accordingly.
  • Coordinate logistics for in-person meetings, including venue arrangements, catering, and technology setup.
  • Act as a liaison between IEC voting members and the Haida Gwaii School District as needed.
  • Extend invitations to guests as requested by the JEC.
  • Manage mileage, honorariums, and travel arrangements for IEC members.
  • Organize and facilitate virtual IEC meetings as required.
  • Provide support for any working committees established by the IEC.


Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma preferred, with relevant experience in administration or a related field.
  • Proficient with a variety of technology tools and software, including Microsoft
  • Strong written, oral, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate standard business equipment.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality of all work-related information.
  • A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of local Indigenous history and culture, as well as contemporary Indigenous issues.
  • Driver's License
