Job Description

POSITION: Registered Nurse

Location: Located in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii

Reporting to: Health Director

Working Conditions: Mondays to Fridays, office work with home visits, call outs may be required.

Salary Range: Starting at $47.77 per hour

mission of providing quality health and wellness services that empower our community.

Under the direction of the Health Director the Home Care Nurse is responsible for providing home care nursing

services which encourage the client to manage their health as independently as possible. The Home Care Nurse

uses independence and initiative to plan, organize, implement, maintain and evaluate professional nursing care

for clients of all ages with chronic, acute, palliative or rehabilitative health care needs in the community of

Skidegate. Services include assessment, direct medical-surgical nursing care, case management, health teaching,

support consultation, liaison and referral in a case management context.

Education, Training & Experience

 Registered Nurse with a degree in Nursing, Health Administration, or related Human Service field with

a focus on management.

 Qualify for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

 Nursing Footcare Certification preferred

 Previous home care nursing experience, preferably in First Nations communities.

 Previous management experience in human services field, preferably experience with the health

transfer process.

 Valid driver’s license


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 Knowledge of Haida culture and values.

 Excellent problem-solving skills, good inter-personal skills with a democratic and team-building

approach to management.

 Good organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate a number of activities at a time.

 Excellent written and verbal skills and skill in using computers

 Strives to meet and exceed the national standards of accreditation

 Actively seeks out and supports activities that promote client, staff, visitor and contractor safety.

 Excellent ability to establish rapport and trust

 Time management skills

 High personal and professional standards


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 Employees must abide by the Skidegate Health Centre’s Code of Conduct

 Criminal Record Check is required
