Salary Range: $35.50 – 36.94 per hour based on experience, Full-time 35-40 hrs. per week

DESCRIPTION

The Property and Assets Manager reports to the Lands Director. The Property and Assets Manager manages agreements, structures and sub-contractors related to recently purchased lands and buildings and ensures that all necessary steps are taken to protect them while defending the Nation’s interests in developing these capital assets and tracking deliverables and costs, and reporting as required. The Property and Assets Manager establishes, tracks, monitors and maintains a database related to all Nation’s assets, such as buildings, equipment, vehicles, vessels and supplies and will be responsible for developing a new capital asset tracking deliverables and costs, and reporting as required. 


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage, track and monitor assets, agreements and projects related to CHN lands.
  • Oversee the Nation’s recent land and building acquisitions by conducting regular inspections to ensure they are safe and functional, meeting all current codes for use and tenancy occupation. 
  • Hire and manage sub-contractors for work related to property management, including managing property related equipment and assets (ie: pumphouses, septic, water treatment facilities, appliances).
  • Managing tenants (collecting rent, arranging repairs, inspections) and property monitoring.
  • Managing new projects on properties (new buildings, new infrastructure, special projects).
  • Ensure that maintenance and repair schedules are included in tracking systems and that responsible departments or teams have the necessary reports to implement solutions.
  • Draft budgets and monitor budget compliance.
  • Work closely the Lands Director and collaboratively with other CHN staff to develop an asset-tracking system.
  • Ensure that maintenance and repair schedules are included in the tracking system and that responsible departments or teams have the necessary reports to implement solutions.
  • Oversee the Nation’s vehicles, heavy equipment and vessels annual inspections and ensure they are safe and function in all weather conditions.
  • Draft budgets and monitor budget compliance.
  • Establish a system for reporting asset needs and repairs so staff can make requests and ensure timely responses.
  • Maintain timely written and verbal reports as requested. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Property management experience;
  • Contracting and/or construction experience;
  • Excellent project management skills, including, planning, execution and reporting;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, task-oriented with solid attention to detail; and respect for confidentiality;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including working collaboratively with individuals and groups in a multidisciplinary setting;
  • Proficient with computers, data analysis and management, managing budgets and tracking systems;
  • Some post-secondary training is an asset or an equivalent combination of education, training and or experience;
  • Keen interest in working with Haida or other First Nations in governance; 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license.
