Job Description: Provides supplementary support services to transition house clients as well as community members of Masset, and Old Masset, as well as any previous transition house clients island wide. Activities include but are not limited to community education, consultation, and advice to community agencies on the effects of violence against women. Provides transportation to the Masset Transition House and accompaniment for legal, medical, and other service provider appointments. Provides assessment and supportive lay counselling for women who have experienced violence, abuse or threats. Liaises between HGSCP and other community programs. This position is required to use their vehicle in the course of their duties. This position is required to be available for call-in hours on an as-needed basis. |

Role and Responsibilities · Develops networks and relationships with related service providers (e.g., counseling programs, neighboring transition houses, alcohol and drug counsellors, and other services) to foster a working relationship between services. · Works with other community agencies in a consultative/advisory capacity to identify and address the service needs of Women. Including any proposed development of violence against Women programs. · Develops and delivers culturally appropriate public education initiatives to raise awareness of the effects of violence against women towards the prevention of violence against women. Plans and oversees HGSCP community and promotional events as related to awareness and prevention of violence and abuse in cooperation with the Transition House Director and the Executive Director · Provides public education and develops promotional tools including online social media tools and presence to raise awareness of the HGSCP’s services that are available to Women who have experienced violence, abuse, or threats. · Maintains HGSCP’s online social media presence including Facebook and Instagram accounts and attends community events as a social media correspondent as related to the goal of ending violence against women. Promotes HGSCP employment opportunities by posting open external job ads on social media channels. · Prompts and promotes culturally sensitive support mechanisms based on the needs of individual women who reside in Masset, Old Masset area. · Facilitates women’s understanding of their experience and the emotional and psychological impact of the trauma resulting from abuse or violent experience. · Assists Women who have experienced violence, abuse, or threats, through referrals to appropriate services such as safe, affordable housing, etc. · Provides transportation, accompaniment, and advocacy, as required for service delivery at the transition house in Masset, including for medical or sexual assault emergencies, legal, housing search, or other social services appointments. · Provides referrals and follow-up support by phone and in person to women who have accessed Outreach and Transition House services; and · Conducts appropriate administrative duties and other related duties as required. Qualifications and Requirements · Diploma in a related human / social service field: · One (1) year related human/social service experience providing services to women who have experienced violence or providing outreach or similar services. · Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. · Computer Skills: familiar with Office programs, some data input and research capabilities, social media skills, internet use and email · Strong networking, organizational and problem-solving skills. · Strong communication skills · Event planning experience · An understanding of systemic discrimination facing women and the dynamics of violence against women · This position is dependent on a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector). · This position is required to use their vehicle in the course of their duties. The successful applicant is required to have a valid drivers’ license and a reliable vehicle at their disposal. · This position requires Union membership with the BCGEU General Services.
