Hydroacoustic Technician


POSITION SUMMARY

Roe Environmental Inc. is seeking a hydroacoustic technician local to Prince Rupert to provide environmental monitoring for the construction of a marine terminal at the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility near Prince Rupert, BC.

Hydroacoustic technicians will deploy and operate hydrophone monitoring equipment. Long hours at monitoring stations on barges and boats may be required during certain construction periods.

Camp facilities will be provided in Prince Rupert for a 2 week on / 2 week off shift schedule. Travel time and associated costs to the remote project location will be reimbursed.


POSITION TERM

Position available for immediate start with a temporary contract to February 2026 and opportunity for continued full-time employment.

LOCATION

The position will involve monitoring on the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility near Prince Rupert, BC. Candidates from outside of the Immediate Prince Rupert area can expect to be housed in a private room in a camp style facility close to the worksite.


REQUIREMENTS

● Position will require shift work - typically 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off .

● Active working days will be 12 hours.

● Applicants must have the legal right to work in Canada.


PREFERRED CAPABILITIES

● Knowledge of bioacoustics and experience with hydrophone operation is an asset, but training will be provided.

● Comfortable working on boats and in outdoor settings (long hours, year-round).

● Strong interpersonal skills for client and contractor communications, and collaboration with a large team of observers.

● Strong data collection and handling skills.

● Experience working on highly dynamic construction sites is an asset.

● Field work experience is an asset.


PREFERENCE GIVEN TO

● Priority placement will be given to Indigenous candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record.

● Priority placement will be given to residents of Prince Rupert or Terrace, BC.


COMPENSATION

● $27/hour - $32.00/hour based on applied experience and training

● Overtime per provincial standards (1.5x over 8hrs, 2x over 12hrs)
