Job Description

$38.40 – 39.94 per hour based on experience, Full-time 35-40 hrs. per week

DESCRIPTION 

Reporting to the Director of Lands, the Heritage & Natural Resource Manager oversees the program areas associated with implementing the Strategic Land Use Agreement, the Kunst’aa Guu-Kunst’aayah Reconciliation Protocol and the Haida Gwaii Land Use Objectives Order.  This position includes close collaboration with other departments and external government staff. The HNRD Manager is responsible for a wide range of areas including but not limited to Forest Stewardship & Monitoring, Solutions Table, HNRC, and HGMC technical support, GIS Mapping services & Archaeological monitoring.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the delivery of Heritage & Natural Resources operations, ensuring existing policies, procedures, and regulations are followed and continue to develop when required; 
  • Supervise a team of seasonal and regular staff. Ensures staff are trained in all duties and meet safety standards. Ensures the inclusion of capacity-building opportunities and succession planning;
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HNRD programs, budgets, work plans and services within the HNRD department;
  • Participate in bodies providing oversight or management of areas as assigned.
  • Assess the departmental, staffing, and fiscal needs of the programs and services annually and make recommendations to the Director.
  • Provide logistical and where applicable resource support towards emergency and high-risk situations;
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Undergraduate degree in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation or related field with three years experience, or an equivalent combination of training, skills and experience 
  • Experience in budget and contractor oversight and management of people;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in the development and implementation of operating plans and policies;
  • Knowledge of Haida Culture and Haida Gwaii natural history;
  • Skilled in fieldwork, physically able to perform field duties
  • Must have a valid class 5 B.C. driver’s license
