POSITION OVERVIEW

Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors with a mandate to provide employment programming and training to enhance the opportunities of the residents of the North Coast, Haida Gwaii and Bella Bella. HSEDS provides resources for jobseekers, newcomers, employers, and new entrepreneurs. Our mission is to serve and build connections for people to reach their employment, training, and settlement goals.

As a HSEDS Gardener you are responsible for managing our organization’s garden and landscaped areas.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Specific Duties:

·      Design a friendly, peaceful and comfortable garden space;

·      Plant all types of plants, including vegetables, flowers and shrubs;

·      Knowledge of North Coast growing season and climate conditions to plant appropriate plants and vegetables;

·      Maintain plants by watering, fertilizing and trimming them;

·      Use and maintain gardening tools and light gardening machinery;

·      Cleaning up garden areas;

·      Provide recommendations for garden;

·      Perform basic maintenance such as emptying bins, managing weed control, sweep, rake, edging, and other garden tasks;

·      Advise management on the costs of plants and garden necessities;

·      Keep records of gardening activities;

·      Able to work well with volunteers and clients;

·      Other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

·      Some experience in a similar role;

· Friendly personality with excellent interpersonal skills;

· Solid understanding of health and safety rules and regulations;

·      Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment.
