Job Description

Adiitsii Naay is a brand new childcare facility opening in Gaw Tlagee/Masset in Fall/Winter 2025. Adiitsii Naay is rooted in the values of nature-based and child-led learning. The Facility will offer 3-6 hours per day of access to natural spaces in the community, as well as inquiry and play-based learning.  Children will build relationships to the land around them, their educators, peers and to themselves. The programming will involve local educational partners, intergenerational connections, and be reflective of Xaads Xiinaangaa Haida ways of knowing, protocol, language and culture. Adiitsii Naay will have 12 infant toddler spaces and 12 3-5 year old spaces once fully operational. Adiitsii Naay will be operational and established within the Daaxigan Sk’adáa Née space by Fall/Winter 2025 (exact date to be determined). 

  It is our goal to create a non-hierarchical workplace where staff satisfaction and retention are priorities. Staff will be hired based on licensing requirements, with sustainable child-staff ratios, they will be supported by a manager and have a consistent conflict resolution model. Qualifications

  • ECE or ECEA Certificate and BC ECE license to practice preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire 
  • Experience working with children is an asset but not required 
  • Ability to deliver child-led, nature-based programming based upon the age, ability and needs of children (training will be provided) 
  •  Ability to communicate in a positive and respectful way with the children, their families and other Adiitsii Naay Staff. 
  • Knowledge of Haida culture, or a willingness to learn and understand 
  • Values diversity 
  • Exhibits good judgment, critical thinking and creative problem solving 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment 
  •  Works collaboratively within a team environment 
  • Able to handle emergencies skillfully and calmly 
  • In sufficient health to handle physical tasks such as walking, running, sitting, squatting, bending, kneeling (to get down on to the children’s level throughout the day), lifting (approximately 30 pounds) and pulling a wagon, etc. 
  • Enjoys working outside in any weather for 3-6 hours per day 
  • Clean and current Criminal Record Check (can be obtained upon hiring)  
  • Current First Aid Certificate (can be obtained upon hiring)
