POSITION SUMMARY 

Haida Tourism is a Haida-owned company owned and operated by Haida Enterprise Corporation (HaiCo). HaiCo is focused on building Haida-owned enterprises that reflect Haida cultural values, investing in the training and mentorship of Haida Citizens, creating careers, and improving the lives of Haida Citizens and the economy of Haida Gwaii. 


The Cultural Ambassador position reports to the Director of Guest Services and is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience. The Cultural Ambassador will use their storytelling abilities and adapt each itinerary to suit the unique interests of each group/guest, providing a superior guest experience. The hours of work will include evenings and weekends. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  


  • Provide tailored guest experiences that emphasize the historical significance, narratives, and cultural heritage of the Haida people and their environment. This involves delivering engaging and informative presentations that foster a deeper understanding among guests.  
  • Develop and sustain professional relationships with local artists and experience providers on the island to facilitate exceptional guest services and authentic cultural interactions, such as workshops and guided explorations.  
  • Assess and address any necessary adjustments to guest itineraries, ensuring that changes enhance guest satisfaction and a positive overall experience. This includes effective communication to resolve any issues that may arise.  
  • Ensure the safe and efficient transportation of guests to guided activities and airports as required, contributing to their overall convenience and enjoyment.  
  • Complete additional related duties as necessary, which may include supporting the Guest experience through event coordination and assisting in the enhancement of service protocols to uphold the organization's standards of excellence.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  


  • Possess exceptional conversational skills complemented by a talent for storytelling.  
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate a strong team environment.  
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Haida history, culture, values, and narratives.  
  • Prioritize hospitality and the establishment of meaningful connections with individuals.  
  • Exhibit adaptability and resilience when faced with last-minute changes.


TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 


  • 2+ years of experience in the tourism or hospitality industry 
  • Valid BC driver’s license  
  • Excellent knowledge of the Haida Culture, Values, Stories, and History.
  • Knowledge of Haida Gwaii and strong connections in the community to support building out guest experiences.
