Job Type: Casual (On-Call)

Employment Type: Union – CUPE 105

Salary Range: $36.52 per hour

Shift: Evening & Weekends – Casual (On-Call) Sunday to Saturday

The City of Prince Rupert is looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our Recreation team as a Clerk II. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator: Culture and Wellness, a Casual Clerk II is a reliable, energetic, self-motivated individual, who strives to deliver exceptional service. This position requires an individual with excellent customer service skills, a strong organizational ability along with the capacity to work effectively and independently in a multi-tasking environment. The successful candidate will enjoy working with the public, possess conflict resolution attributes, be highly adaptable and a quick learner.

What you’ll do…

  • Provide superior customer service, general clerical duties and supporting administrative tasks for recreational, arena, fitness and aquatic activities and initiatives.
  • Respond to enquiries from the public by providing general information on facility operations, recreational programs, course schedules, events and facilities; take messages and forward calls; forward feedback on recreational programs to program coordinators; provide office support to co ordinators and management; record information regarding lost or stolen items and complaints.
  • To supervise public members and user groups of all ages, enforce facility code of conduct and safety rules
  • Operate POS/Registration system, booking permits and credit/debit card machine; balance and verify daily cash and credit card reports; prepare cash sheets and bank deposits; maintain coin float and order from bank as required
  • In extenuating circumstances, may support team set up and take down of facility bookings
  • Ensure to provide first aid when necessary, report incidents promptly, and adhere to all safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Supporting the City’s Employee Health and Wellness through the Wellness Works committee
  • Supporting the Recreation and Community Services department on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt to changing needs and schedules at the Recreation Complex and in the community
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Other administrative assistant duties as assigned by supervisor, manager and director 

What you’ll bring…

  • Completion of a post-secondary certificate, or current enrollment and active pursuit of a certificate or diploma in a relevant field of study i.e. office administration, customer services or related
  • Three years of administrative or customer service experience, preferably in a public sector or recreation environment.
  • Alternatively, candidates with a combination of relevant post-secondary education courses and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) and registration software systems and MS Office Suite
  • Accurate typing speed of 50 words per minute
  • Standard First Aid, CPR-C & AED or willing to take prior to start date
  • Sport for Life’s Introduction to Physical Literacy – 90min (online E-learning) (asset)
