We are seeking a dynamic and responsible individual to join our team as a Camp Supervisor. In this role, you will take charge of leading and managing the day-to-day operations of our Rediscovery Program within the camp setting. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the health and safety of all participants, staff, and volunteers.


POSITION TERM: Seasonal position for the summer of 2024

June to the end of August with the possibility of an extension to mid-September if needed and available.


Pay rate: $300.00 a day


RESPONSIBLE TO: Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang Haida Gwaii Society Executive Director.



· Lead and inspire staff in delivering the Rediscovery Program with excellence.

· Oversee the program schedule to ensure smooth and effective operations.

· Delegate duties and responsibilities to staff, volunteers, and resource persons, ensuring optimal task distribution.

· Daily safety check in with Executive Director at set time

· Helps coordinate Staff Training and preparation for the operations of the camp.

· Prepares Camp Staff and Session Reports for each camp session.

· Ensure that all safety standards are adhered to by staff, participants, volunteers, and resource persons at all times while in camp.

· Ensures that the Rediscovery Program Policy is adhered to.

· Demonstrate Problem-solving skills ,sound written and oral communication skills.

· Ensure that the Rediscovery Emergency Procedures Protocol is followed.

· Practice considerable judgment in dealing with staff and participants.

· Maintain confidentiality.

· Contribute to a positive environment of camp operations.

· Achieve results through self-motivation and the promotion of teamwork.

· Other duties as required.



· Candidates must have relevant post-secondary education, experience in wilderness camp operations, and extensive knowledge of outdoor activities such as camping, backpacking, group sports and kayaking.

· Extensive knowledge of the natural history and anthropology of Haida Gwaii and of T’aalan Stl’ang, as well as a keen understanding of the Haida Culture.

· Xaad Kil / Northern Haida Language knowledge and fluency are assets, and ongoing study of the language is encouraged.

· Sound personal practices, organizational development, and knowledge of program policies.

· Demonstrated ability to handle conflict, manage a team and adequately cope with stress.



· Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Medically cleared to assume the physical responsibilities of this position (be able to lift 50lbs)

· Current certification in Wilderness First Aid, Bronze Medallion Lifesaving, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

· Class 5 B.C. drivers license.

· Willing to work in the isolated setting of T’aalan Stl’ang formerly known as Lepas Bay for periods of no more than 31 days in duration.

· Valid Food Safe certification.

Preference will be given to those of Haida ancestry with firsthand knowledge of T’aalan Stl’ang’s terrain, landmarks, safety hazards, and experience hiking in the area normally traveled during the Program.
