What you’ll do…
• Enforce City bylaws including noise, traffic and parking, building, zoning, dog control, and nuisance.
• Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding regulatory matters in a timely and courteous manner and assist the public with compliance regarding all City bylaws.
• Prohibition, as directed by management.
• Liaise and work closely with all City departments, the RCMP, the veterinarian, and the SPCA.
• Assist other City departments in dealing with bylaw offences and contraventions.
• Responsible for maintaining a time schedule to ensure traffic patrol route enforcement.
• Impoundment of dogs. Page 2 of 3 • Respond to calls regarding dead or injured domestic animals, and removal and disposal of carcasses.
• Identification and disposal of derelict vehicles on public and private property. • Responsible for evidence collection and documentation in a manner suitable for court processes.
• Maintain notebook integrity (required for court).
• Preparation, registration, and serving legal documents.
• Meticulous step-by-step processing of traffic and general tickets issued under the Municipal Ticketing Information System (MTI), from issuance through and including collection.
• Data entry into municipal software.
• Complete monthly and quarterly statistical reports as required.
• Keep accurate daily activity logs.
• Proficient computer experience and processing is essential (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Required to wear City-issued uniform and maintain a neat and tidy appearance.

Must haves (minimum requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Post-secondary coursework in law enforcement, public administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
• Relevant experience in Bylaw Enforcement, regulatory compliance, or a related field.
• Proven ability to handle animals, particularly dogs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, GIS, and Records Management Systems.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
• Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement, & Investigative Skills – Level 1 or equivalent (or working towards).
• Strong emotional intelligence, including the ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with a focus on respectful and effective communication.
• Sound judgement and decision-making abilities, particularly when dealing with sensitive or complex bylaw enforcement matters.
• The ability to de-escalate tense situations and maintain composure when interacting with the public.
• A high level of integrity, discretion, and accountability in all aspects of the role.
• Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities
Conditions of employment…
Candidates selected for employment will be required to:
• Provide proof of all education and certification requirements relevant to the position.
• Obtain and maintain a satisfactory Police Information Check – Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS), to be reviewed by the City prior to employment.
• Provide a satisfactory five-year driver’s abstract.
• Provide three professional references from recent employment, preferably including a direct supervisor.
• Successfully complete a probationary period of three to six months.
Compensation…
• Wage Rate: $37.94 per hour, in accordance with Pay Schedule A of the current CUPE Local 105 Collective Agreement.
• Benefits: A comprehensive benefits package that includes participation in the Municipal Pension Plan.
