FULL-TIME POSITION


Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors with a mandate to provide employment programming and training to enhance the opportunities of the residents of the North Coast, Haida Gwaii and Bella Bella.

As an Assistant Manager you will facilitate program delivery on-island, oversee the facilities and team, participate in, and lead community engagement, and seek opportunities for partnerships and future programs.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Supervise and support a small service delivery team that works in various locations in Haida Gwaii,
  • Oversee labour market development program delivery in Haida Gwaii,
  • Coordinate with the HSEDS Training Department to deliver skills and certificate training,
  • Plan and implement, as well as participate in events related to local labour market, community development, and HSEDS programming,
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with employers, community service providers, associations, and other stakeholders,
  • Contribute to, and develop, proposals and initiatives for services and programs on Haida Gwaii,
  • Oversee facilities and general operations in Daajing giids and Masset,
  • Provide direct client service and group facilitation as needed,
  • Market the organization’s programs locally and develop connections to help identify potential clients and employers, and training opportunities,
  • Participate on cross department team initiatives and projects, and other items that arise,
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Desired Qualifications:


  • At least 2 years’ experience supervising staff,
  • A related certificate, designation, or degree (i.e., Business Administration, Social Services, Community Development, Career Development, or other relevant discipline, etc.,
  • Technologically literate,
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences in writing and in-person,
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision,
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality,
  • Experience delivering programs and services for and with Indigenous people and remote communities,
  • Able to work with people from all backgrounds, and understand the needs,
  • Is a forward thinker; able to see the bigger picture and apply that to the day-to-day activities,
  • Able to engage and maintain a team dedicated to excellence in service,
  • A relationship builder with strong interpersonal, coaching, negotiation, and presentation skills,
  • Experience supervising, planning, reporting, and managing resources, including human resources,
  • Problem solver and ability to make decisions and take initiative,
  • A desire to learn and adapt in a changing environment,
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle – regular travel is required between Daajing Giids and Masset,
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
