Job Description

Overall
Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Director is responsible for supervision and
implementation of all production elements, including: lighting, sound, set design and construction. This
position will also provide production assistance to outside groups, as well as some maintenance and repair
to theatre equipment.

Primary responsibilities
• Operates, maintains, and protects the theatre’s technical assets, including lighting, sound, and
stage materials;
• Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, and staging, which are
necessary for events and performances in advance of production dates;
• Designs and supervises sound and light design for Lester Centre presentations and productions;
• Designs and supervises with set and stage construction for Lester Centre productions;
• Ensures smooth operation of technical aspects of all productions;
• Oversees board operation during performances;
• Maintains technical inventory, and purchases materials in line with needs of the theatre;
• Recommends capital purchases to the General Manager;
• Maintain the scene shop and ensure it is in a tidy condition;
• Attends required production meetings and serves as technical consultant;
• Regularly inspects the condition of the theatre and backstage areas, and ensures the facility is safe
for audiences and performers;
• Stays abreast of new technologies and trends with regards to lighting and audio equipment;
• Repairs equipment as needed (or arranges to have it sent away, as required);
• Other duties as required.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a love of theatre and live performance. The candidate will also have 3-5
years of experience in a theatre or similar setting.

• Demonstrate a willingness to continually learn;
• Be very adaptable, and able to “think on one’s feet” especially during performance nights.

Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000
