Niislaa Naay Healing House Society is well funded and in the early stage of operating as an independent Society. Niislaa Naay services the community of Old Massett, as well the neighbouring communities. Niislaa Naay hosts many interactive community programs such as traditional wellness, mental health, community health, midwifery, maternal health, home care, youth services, dentistry, patient travel, and primary care services. Services are provided from three locations: the youth centre, wellness house, and the Niislaa Nay Healing House. Many programs that are offered have a land-based healing approach incorporating the culture and traditions of the Haida people.

Job Description

Salary: $49.20 - $63.47
Type: Permanent, Full-time. 35hrs per week


Position Summary
Working within the context of the client-centered, family-focused Niislaa Naay Healing House Vision and Goals for Health Services, the Nurse Team Lead is responsible for overseeing all Nurse Services within Niislaa Naay to First Nations clients and their partners and families who live on reserve and those who live off reserve who wish to access the services at the Health Centre. As an integral member of the health team, the Nurse Team Lead works cooperatively and collaboratively to plan, implement, facilitate, maintain, and evaluate innovative, holistic strategies to improve the health status of the community. The Nurse Team Lead reports to the Health Director.


Roles and Responsibilities
Nurse Team Lead is diverse, challenging and constantly changing. The role of the NNHHS Nurse Team Lead is based on Cultural Safety, Community Development, Health Promotion, Clinical, Critical Thinking and Human Relations.

Provide community health nursing in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and clinical programs.

Collaborate with other members of the health care team in planning and providing health care services.

Maintain knowledge and skills required for community health nursing practice, including immunizations, communicable disease control, pre- and post-natal care, infant assessment, infant and preschool health, school health, adult and Elder health, footcare, leadership, communications and other pertinent issues. Provide nursing care consistent with relevant legislation and professional standards of practice

Ensure appropriate written documentation and proper maintenance of client files/charts.

Know about the proper use of equipment, technology, and products (including vaccines and medications).

Work alongside the Health Director in the development of the Primary Care Network

Organize, co-ordinates and evaluates patient care within the Community Health and Homecare Department.

Manage Community Health Representative, Homecare Nurse, Care Aids, and Homecare Outreach.

Acts as a member of the management team, participating in tactical management meetings, short and long-term planning and budget development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge & understanding of traditional Haida culture and values and First Nations’ health and social issues

Knowledge & understanding of the population health approach and the social determinants of health

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

Self-directed with the ability to work independently

Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team

Management or supervisory experience in health care, with strong leadership skill
Education, Training, and Experience

Member in good standing of the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC)

Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited University required.

Minimum of 5 years recent related clinical and management.

Experience in a public health or community-based setting

Immunization Competency Program Certificate (3-year certification)

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check according to the Criminal Record Review Act, Ministry of Public Safety and the Solicitor General

Computer skills to effectively use software systems such as MOIS, Microsoft 365

Valid Class 5 Driver’s license

Valid Level C First Aid and CPR Certification
