Title: North Beach Fisheries Monitor
Type: Full time, 35-40 hours per week from May to August 2025.
Location: Based in Masset.
Salary: $23.32 – $26.23 per hour based on experience.
Description of work
Under direction of the Senior Biologist or Operations Supervisor, the North Beach monitor conducts interviews with the public from June through August on both North Beach and Agate Beach to estimate fishing effort, catch per unit effort and total catch for K’amahl/Razor Clam and K’ust’aan/Dungeness Crab. The North Beach fisheries monitor may also provide assistance in Clam surveys to monitor Razor Clam populations. The main goals of the Fisheries Monitors interviews are to estimate crab and clam fishing effort for Haida traditional fisheries (FSC) and recreational fisheries while distributing information of conservation and fishery regulations, monitoring compliance with fishery regulations, and interfacing with the public.
Candidates are required to have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Additional training will be provided for the successful candidate.
