Salary Range: $38.40-$40.00 per hour based on experience and education, Full-time 35-40 hrs. per week

DESCRIPTION

The Marine Economic Development Coordinator focuses on policy, planning and project implementation related to socio-economic objectives and strategies outlined in the Haida Gwaii Marine Plan. As part of the technical implementation team that includes marine biologists, planners, and other technical staff from both the Council of the Haida Nation and Province of British Columbia, the Coordinator will contribute to the Council of the Haida Nation’s mandate and work collaboratively to advance an ecosystem-based management approach to Haida Gwaii’s marine planning.  


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, coordinate, and/or work collaboratively on marine economic development projects or initiatives being implemented through the Haida Gwaii Marine Plan. 
  • Identify needs and resources for effective Plan implementation and amendment and develop effective strategies and workplans to advance Plan priorities. 
  • Coordinate and assist with management of contracts related to project implementation.  
  • Conduct research, develop recommendations and prepare briefings on socio-economic issues related to the coastal economy and communities of Haida Gwaii. 
  • Work with MaPP partners across the North Pacific Coast to advance regional discussions on monitoring non-ecological ecosystem-based management indicators. such as economic development, human wellbeing and community resilience. 
  • Work with others at the Council of the Haida Nation to support economic development aspects of fisheries management, marine protected area planning, and monitoring cumulative effects of marine shipping. 
  • Engage effectively with Haida citizens, public, other organizations, community members, agency staff, contractors and others to further objectives of the Plan and build positive and productive relationships. 
  • Support committee management of co-governance tables, management boards and technical working groups. 
  • Develop and prepare materials, reports, presentations and other materials on Plan implementation and marine economic issues for a range of audiences including Haida Marine Work Group and other leadership bodies. 
  • Other related duties as directed



KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including experience working with individuals and groups in a multidisciplinary setting, 
  • Proficient with computers and data analysis and management, 
  • Strong research skills, specifically in the analysis of social, economic, and fisheries data. 
  • Knowledge of Haida governance and Haida Gwaii’s communities considered an asset.  


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in business, community planning, economic development, environmental studies or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
  • Haida candidates and lived experience in Haida Gwaii considered an asset. If a non-resident, successful candidate will be required to relocate to Haida Gwaii.  
  • A minimum of two years related work experience.
